Levi meaning
Levi is an international and Christian boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Attached, joined; Levi, a son of Jacob
Levi comes from Hebrew Leviy, the third son of Jacob and Leah. In Genesis 29:34 Leah names him in the hope that her husband will now be joined to her, and Strong's accordingly derives the name from lavah, 'to join', glossing it 'attached'. Brown-Driver-Briggs treats the root as doubtful but records this reading. Levi's descendants, the Levites, served in the Temple, and in the Gospels the apostle Matthew is also called Levi. Baby-name lists give 'joined' or 'attached', which matches Strong's. Said LEE-vy, it is short and easy with Indian surnames.
