Asher meaning
Asher is an international and Christian boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Happy, blessed one
Asher is a Hebrew name, ʾĀšēr, from the verb ʾāšar, "to be happy". Strong's Concordance (H836) gives "happy", and Brown-Driver-Briggs glosses it "happy one", comparing the Latin name Felix. In Genesis 30:13 Leah names the son born to her maid Zilpah, saying "Happy am I", and he became the ancestor of one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The name is used by Christian and Jewish families worldwide. In India it sounds close to the Hindi word āshā, "hope", though the two words are unrelated; parents may like the echo, but the Hebrew meaning is "happy".
