Ashish meaning
Ashish (आशीष) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Blessing, benediction; prayer, wish
Ashish (आशीष) comes from Sanskrit āśis, a feminine noun that Monier-Williams connects with ā-śās, "to pray for, to hope". Its senses run from asking for something, a prayer or a wish, to a blessing or benediction, and the dictionary traces the word from the Ṛgveda through the epics and Kālidāsa. MW also lists a quite separate āśis meaning a serpent's fang, which has nothing to do with the name. Indian name lists give Ashish as "blessing", which matches the main dictionary sense. Although the Sanskrit word is feminine, the name is used for boys in India, and its usual English spellings are Ashish and Aashish.
