Ashwani meaning
Ashwani (अश्वनी) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The first lunar mansion, presided over by the Ashvin twins
Also used to mean: horse-tamer
Ashwani (अश्वनी) comes from Sanskrit aśvinī and aśvin, both built on aśva, "horse". Monier-Williams gives aśvin as possessed of horses or a horse-tamer, and in the dual as the two Aśvins, twin gods who appear before dawn in a golden chariot and are the physicians of heaven; Aśvinī is their wife and the first of the lunar mansions, at the head of Aries. As a boy's name Ashwani usually stands for Aśvinī-kumāra, a title of the twins, who in later tradition were regarded as Aśvinī's sons. Name lists give it as "first", from the nakṣatra, or link it to the twin healers.
