Ashwath meaning
Ashwath (अश्वत्थ) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The sacred fig or peepal tree; a name of the sun
Also used to mean: sacred fig tree
Ashwath (अश्वत्थ) is the Sanskrit aśvattha, the sacred fig or peepal tree, Ficus religiosa. Monier-Williams cites it from the Atharva-veda and the Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa, notes that its wood was used for the fire-drill in Vedic ritual, and records it as a name of the sun in the Mahābhārata. In the Bhagavad Gītā Krishna says that among trees he is the aśvattha, and the fifteenth chapter describes the world as an aśvattha with its roots above and branches below. It is also the bodhi tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment. Name lists give Ashwath as "peepal tree", matching the dictionary.
