Ashwin meaning
Ashwin (अश्विन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Possessed of horses; a horse-tamer; the twin gods called Aśvins
Also used to mean: horse tamer, physician of the gods, a Hindu month
Ashwin (अश्विन) comes from Sanskrit aśvin, formed from aśva, "horse". Monier-Williams gives it as possessed of horses or mounted, and as a noun a cavalier or horse-tamer. In the dual it names the Aśvins, twin deities of the Rig Veda who appear before dawn in a golden chariot, bring treasure, avert sickness and are regarded as the physicians of heaven. A closely related word, āśvina, is the month of the rainy season when the moon is near the star Aśvinī, around September and October. Name lists give all three senses, "horse-tamer", "physician of the gods" and "a Hindu month", and each has dictionary support.
