Ashiq meaning
Ashiq (عاشق) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
A lover; one who loves ardently
Ashiq (عاشق) is the Arabic ʿāshiq, "lover", from the root ʿ-sh-q. Lane's lexicon treats ʿāshiq as an ardent or excessive lover and defines ʿishq as intense, passionate love; he notes that the old lexicographers described it variously, as admiration that overlooks the beloved's faults, as a kind of melancholy, and as love that may be chaste or otherwise. In Urdu and Persian poetry, and above all in Sufi devotion, the ʿāshiq is the lover of God or of the Prophet. Name lists give Ashiq simply as "lover".
