Fawad (فؤاد) is the Urdu pronunciation of Arabic fuʾād, "the heart". Lane's lexicon defines fuʾād as the heart, a synonym of qalb, and notes the form fawād as a dialect variant; Steingass gives fuʾād, fuwād or fawād in Persian as the heart, and also the mind or soul. The Quran uses the word in 28:10 for the heart of the mother of Moses, troubled after she set her baby on the river. Name lists give "heart", which matches the dictionaries. The spelling Fuad is usual in the Arab world, and the Pakistani actor Fawad Khan is a well-known bearer.
