Rauf meaning
Rauf (رؤف) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Very merciful, most kind; an epithet of God
Also used to mean: compassionate
Rauf (رؤف) is the Arabic raʾūf, from the root r-ʾ-f, which expresses pity and tender compassion. Lane's lexicon treats it with raʾf and records al-Raʾūf as one of the epithets of God, meaning the Merciful, with an intensive force: "the Very Merciful". The Quran pairs it with raḥīm: "God is, to the people, kind and merciful" (2:143), and also uses it of the Prophet. Name lists give Rauf as "kind" or "compassionate", matching the dictionary. Because it is a divine epithet, the full form Abdul Rauf, "servant of the Most Kind", is also used, as is Rauf alone.
