Asim meaning
Asim (عاصم) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
A protector, defender, preserver
Also used to mean: guardian
Asim (عاصم) is the Arabic ʿāṣim, from ʿaṣama, "to defend, to protect, to keep safe". Lane's lexicon defines it as a defender or protector, and quotes the Quran's account of the flood, where Noah's son is told that "there is no protector today from the command of God" (11:43). The name is honoured through ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd of Kufa, whose reading of the Quran, as handed down by his pupil Ḥafṣ, is the one most Indian Muslims recite. Asim should not be confused with the Sanskrit Aseem, "boundless".
