Asaf meaning
Asaf (آصف) is a Muslim boy's name of Hebrew origin (via Arabic and Persian).
Āṣaf, Solomon's wise minister; hence a wise counsellor
Asaf (آصف) comes from Āṣaf ibn Barkhiyā, whom Arab and Persian tradition remembered as the wise chief minister of King Solomon. Steingass's dictionary records him, and notes that his name became proverbial for any wise adviser, so that āṣaf-jāh, "dignified like Āṣaf", was a title of honour. That title was taken by the founder of the Hyderabad state, Asaf Jah I, and the Nizams were known as the Asaf Jahi dynasty. The name is often confused with Asif, which is a different word. The freedom fighter Asaf Ali was India's first ambassador to the United States.
