Hameed meaning
Hameed (حمید) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Praised, praiseworthy, laudable; al-Hamid, God who is praised in every case
Hameed (حمید) is Arabic ḥamīd, from the root ḥ-m-d, "to praise". Lane's lexicon defines it as praised, commended and praiseworthy, and explains al-Ḥamīd, one of God's names, as He who is praised in every state. The Quran often pairs it with ghanī: "God is self-sufficient, praiseworthy" (2:267). Name lists give "praiseworthy", which is exactly the dictionary sense. Hameed is a different word from Hamid (ḥāmid, "one who praises"), although the two are often treated as one name. In India it is used alone and in Abdul Hameed.
