Jibran (جبران) is linked to the Arabic root j-b-r, whose verb jabara means to set a broken bone and so to restore or make good. Lane's lexicon records jubrān as a making-up: the amount added when a person's property falls short of what alms require. Name lists give many meanings, such as "reward", "consolation" or "restoration"; only the idea of making good has dictionary support. The best-known bearer is the Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran, whose Arabic name was Jubrān. In India and Pakistan the name is spelt Jibran.
