Dastagir meaning
Dastagir (دستگیر) is a Muslim boy's name of Persian origin.
One who takes the hand; a helper, patron, protector; a saint
Dastagir (دستگیر) is Persian dast-gīr, literally "one who takes the hand". Steingass's dictionary defines it as an assistant, patron or protector, and also as a saint; it can even mean taking someone prisoner, though that is not the sense used in names. In South Asia Dastagir is above all a title of the Sufi master Abdul Qadir Jilani, revered as Ghaus-e-Azam Dastagir, which is why Ghulam Dastagir, "servant of Dastagir", is also used as a name. Name lists give "helper" or "protector", matching the dictionary.
