Raqib meaning
Raqib (رقیب) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
A watcher, guardian or keeper; (in Urdu also) a rival
Also used to mean: protector
Raqib (رقیب) is the Arabic raqīb, from raqaba, "to watch". Lane's lexicon gives it as one who watches or waits, a guardian, keeper or preserver, and a lookout who keeps guard over a people; al-Raqīb is a name of God, "the Watcher from whom nothing is hidden", as in "God is ever watchful over you" (4:1). Name lists give Raqib as "guardian" or "watcher". Urdu poetry also uses raqīb for a rival in love, a sense Platts records, so some families prefer the full form Abdul Raqib. In Bengal and Assam the name is very often spelt Rakib.
