Aman meaning

Aman (अमन) is a Hindu, Muslim and Sikh boy's name of Arabic origin (via Persian and Hindi-Urdu), also used for girls, especially in Punjab. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.

Security, safety, freedom from fear; protection

Also used to mean: peace

Aman (अमन) is a word Hindi and Urdu took from Arabic, from the root ʾ-m-n, which carries the idea of being safe and free from fear. Lane's Arabic lexicon defines amn as security, safety and freedom from fear, and amān as protection or a safeguard, and very often a promise of safety given to someone. Platts' Hindustani dictionary adds "peace of mind". In everyday Hindi and Urdu aman is the ordinary word for peace, which is why name lists give Aman as "peace". Some sites call the name Sanskrit, but we found no Sanskrit source for it. Aman is used by Hindu, Muslim and Sikh families, and in Punjab it is also given to girls.
