Ashraf meaning
Ashraf (اشرف) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
More or most high and eminent; generally, more or most noble
Ashraf (اشرف) is the Arabic elative of sharīf, from the root sh-r-f, "to be high or eminent". Lane defines sharīf as high, exalted or eminent, in religion or in worldly rank, and generally as high-born or noble; ashraf is the step above, "more or most" so: the most noble, the most eminent. The root also gives sharaf, which Lane renders as highness, eminence and nobility. Name lists give Ashraf as "most noble" or "honourable", which matches the dictionary. The same pattern of elative gives other names, such as Akbar, "greater", and Aḥmad, "more praiseworthy". Ashraf is often paired with another name, as in Ashraf Ali.
