Dawood meaning
Dawood (داؤد) is a Muslim boy's name of Hebrew origin (Arabic form Dāwūd).
David; Hebrew Dāwid, glossed "loving" in Strong's concordance
Also used to mean: beloved, beloved friend
Dawood (داؤد) is the Arabic and Urdu form of David, the prophet-king whom the Quran calls Dāwūd. The Quran says in 2:251 that Dāwūd killed Jālūt (Goliath) and that God gave him kingship and wisdom, and in 4:163 that God gave him the Zabur, the Psalms. Strong's concordance traces the Hebrew Dāwid to the same root as dōd, "beloved", and glosses the name "loving"; name lists give "beloved". Steingass records dāwud simply as David. The name is also spelled Daud and Dawud, and the Dawoodi Bohra community takes its name from a later bearer.
