Devesh meaning
Devesh (देवेश) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, दे, it is a Meen rashi name (Revati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Chief of the gods
Devesh (देवेश) is Sanskrit deveśa, from deva, "god", and īśa, "lord". Monier-Williams explains it as "chief of the gods" and records it in the Mahābhārata and classical poetry as a title of Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śiva or Indra, so the name can honour whichever deity a family worships. The same entry gives a more earthly sense, "king, prince". The feminine deveśī is listed as a name of the goddess Durgā and of Devakī, Krishna's mother. Baby-name lists agree on "lord of the gods", so the popular and dictionary meanings are the same. The name is said with a long first vowel and the stress on the second syllable.
