Namdev meaning
Namdev (नामदेव) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Marathi usage). By its first sound, ना, it is a Vrishchik rashi name (Anuradha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A man's name; from nāman, 'name', and deva, 'god'
Also used to mean: devotee of god, saint
Namdev (नामदेव) is the name of Sant Namdev, the Marathi poet-saint of the Varkari tradition who sang in praise of Vitthal of Pandharpur in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries; some of his hymns are included in the Guru Granth Sahib. Monier-Williams records nāmadeva simply as a man's name. Its parts are nāman, "name", and deva, "god", and name lists read it as "devotee of God" or "saint", drawing on the famous bearer and on the Varkari practice of singing God's name. It is used mainly in Maharashtra.
