Ajinkya meaning
Ajinkya (अजिंक्य) is a Hindu boy's name of Marathi origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Unconquerable, invincible
Ajinkya (अजिंक्य) is a Marathi word meaning invincible. Molesworth's Marathi dictionary records the form ajiṅka, "unconquerable", explaining it as a-, "not", with jiṅkaṇẽ, "to conquer", and Date's Maharashtra Shabdakosh lists ajiṅkya as the same word. It corresponds to Sanskrit ajeya, from the same root ji, "to conquer". The same word appears in Ajinkyatara, the name of the hill fort above Satara. As a boys' name it is distinctly Maharashtrian; the best-known bearer is the cricketer Ajinkya Rahane.
