Philipose meaning
Philipose is a Christian boy's name of Malayalam origin (from Syriac and Greek).
Fond of horses (Greek Philippos, Philip)
Also used to mean: lover of horses
Philipose is the form of Philip used by Kerala's Saint Thomas (Syrian) Christians. Philip comes from Greek Philippos, which Strong's Concordance builds from philos, 'fond of', and hippos, 'horse', so the name means 'fond of horses' or 'lover of horses'. In the New Testament it belongs to the apostle Philip and to Philip the evangelist. In Kerala the name is carried by church leaders such as Philipose Mar Chrysostom, the long-lived Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church, and by Kayamkulam Philipose Ramban, whose Malayalam translation of 1811, the Ramban Bible, was the first Bible published in Malayalam. Pothan and Peeli are homely forms of the same name.
