Geevarghese meaning
Geevarghese is a Christian boy's name of Greek origin (Syriac Malayalam form of George).
Farmer, land-worker; Greek georgos
Geevarghese is the Kerala Syrian Christian form of George, reached through Syriac Giwargis from Greek Georgios. The Greek name is built on georgos, which Strong's Concordance defines as 'a land-worker, i.e. farmer', from ge, 'earth', and ergon, 'work'. St George the soldier-martyr is greatly loved in Kerala, where many churches bear his name, and the shorter forms Varghese and Varkey are used as first names and surnames. A famous bearer was Geevarghese Mar Gregorios of Parumala (1848–1902), who was declared a saint by the Malankara Orthodox Church in 1947.
