Pathrose meaning
Pathrose is a Christian boy's name of Malayalam origin (from Syriac and Greek).
A rock, a piece of rock (Greek Petros, Peter)
Also used to mean: stone
Pathrose is the form of Peter used by Kerala's Saint Thomas (Syrian) Christians, who received their biblical names through the Syriac liturgy. It goes back to Greek Petros, which Strong's Concordance defines as a piece of rock, the name Jesus gave the fisherman Simon when he called him the rock on which he would build his church. Kerala families also use the homely forms Pathappan and Pappachan for the same name. Pathrose belongs mostly to earlier generations, but it is still chosen by parents who want to carry a grandfather's name forward in its Kerala form.
