Yohannan meaning
Yohannan is a Christian boy's name of Malayalam origin (from Syriac and Hebrew).
Jehovah-favoured (Hebrew Yehochanan, John)
Also used to mean: God is gracious
Yohannan is the Syriac form of John, kept alive in Kerala by the Saint Thomas Christians, whose liturgy was in Syriac for centuries. It goes back to Hebrew Yehochanan, which Strong's Concordance builds from the name of God and chanan, 'to show favour', and renders 'Jehovah-favored'; name lists give 'God is gracious'. Kerala families also use the related forms Ulahannan and Ninan for the same name. Yohannan is the name Kerala churches give to John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, and it is a traditional name for boys named after a grandfather.
