Kurian meaning
Kurian is a Christian boy's name of Greek origin (via Syriac, Malayalam form).
Short form of Kuriakose: belonging to the Lord
Also used to mean: of the Lord
Kurian is the everyday Malayalam form of Kuriakose, the Kerala version of the Syriac Quryaqos and Greek Kyriakos. Strong's Concordance (G2960) explains kuriakos as "belonging to the Lord", from kurios, "lord", the word behind "the Lord's day" in Revelation 1:10. Among the Saint Thomas Christians of Kerala the name is passed down through families, so it appears both as a first name and, following the custom of using a father's name, as a family name, often spelled Kurien. Well-known bearers include Justice Kurian Joseph of the Supreme Court of India and Verghese Kurien, architect of India's White Revolution in milk.
