Eldho meaning
Eldho is a Christian boy's name of Syriac origin (Kerala usage).
Birth, nativity (Syriac yaldā, West Syriac yaldo)
Also used to mean: birth of Christ
Eldho is a Kerala name taken from St Baselios Yeldho (1593–1685), a Syriac Orthodox bishop from near Mosul who came to Kerala in his nineties and died at Kothamangalam, where his tomb at Marthoman Cheriyapally is a major pilgrimage site. The Syriac word yaldā, pronounced yaldo in the West Syriac tradition, means birth or nativity, and in church use recalls the birth of Christ. Families of the Jacobite and Orthodox churches often bring sons to Kothamangalam to be baptised Eldho, or Basil after the saint's other name.
