Ambrose meaning
Ambrose is a Christian boy's name of Greek origin (via Latin).
Immortal, divine; belonging to the gods
Ambrose comes through Latin Ambrosius from Greek ambrosios, 'immortal' or 'divine'. In Homer the word describes things that belong to the gods, such as their hair, robes and sleep, and it gives us ambrosia, the food of the gods. The name was made famous by St Ambrose, the fourth-century bishop of Milan who baptised St Augustine and is counted among the Doctors of the Church. Indian Catholic families in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Mangalore use it, and name lists agree on the meaning 'immortal'.
