Ambar meaning
Ambar (عنبر) is a Hindu and Muslim unisex name of Arabic origin (via Persian and Urdu), used for both girls and boys.
Ambergris, a prized perfume; also a great sea-fish
Also used to mean: fragrance
Ambar (عنبر) is Arabic ʿanbar, ambergris, the rare fragrant substance found in the sea. Lane's lexicon gives the old accounts of where it came from, a great fish or a spring in the sea, says the white kind was valued most, and adds that ʿanbar was also the name of a large sea-fish whose skin was used for shields. The English word amber comes from it. Among Indian Muslims Ambar or Amber is a girl's name meaning "ambergris" or "fragrance". The Hindu name Ambar, "sky", is a different Sanskrit word and is usually given to boys.
