Alamgir meaning
Alamgir (عالمگیر) is a Muslim boy's name of Persian origin (from Arabic ʿālam).
World-conquering; a title of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb
Also used to mean: conqueror of the world
Alamgir (عالمگیر) is a Persian compound of the Arabic ʿālam, "world", and the Persian gīr, "seizing". Steingass's dictionary defines ʿālam-gīr as one who conquers the whole world, and notes it as one of the titles of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who reigned as Alamgir from 1658 to 1707. It belongs to the same family of royal titles as Jahangir, which also means "world-seizer". Name lists give Alamgir as "conqueror of the world", the literal sense of the compound.
