Channabasava meaning
Channabasava (चन्नबसव) is a Hindu boy's name of Kannada origin.
Handsome Basava; a personal name, notably Basava's nephew
Channabasava (चन्नबसव, Kannada ಚನ್ನಬಸವ) combines Kannada canna, "a handsome man, a man of beauty", with basava, Shiva's bull and the name of the reformer Basava. Kittel's dictionary lists the compound as a personal name, especially that of Basava's sister's son. That nephew, Channabasavanna, was a leading 12th-century Lingayat saint and vachana poet who headed the Anubhava Mantapa at Kalyana; his samadhi at Ulavi is a pilgrimage site. Lingayat families in North Karnataka still use the name, often with the respectful endings -anna or -appa.
