Dominic meaning
Dominic is an international and Christian boy's name of Latin origin.
Of the Lord; belonging to a lord or master
Also used to mean: belonging to God
Dominic comes from the Latin name Dominicus, "of the Lord". Lewis & Short give the adjective dominicus as "of or belonging to a lord or master", and in Church Latin it described what belonged to God: dominica dies was the Lord's day, Sunday, and dominica cena the Lord's Supper. The name is closely linked with Saint Dominic (about 1170-1221), the Spanish priest who founded the Order of Preachers, the Dominicans. It has long been used by Catholic families in Goa, Mangalore and Kerala, and in many languages, including Domenico in Italian and Domingo in Spanish. A short form is Dom.
