Devasagayam meaning
Devasagayam (தேவசகாயம்) is a Tamil and Christian boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Tamil usage).
Help of God: tēvaṉ "God" + cakāyam "help, support"
Also used to mean: God is my help
Devasagayam (தேவசகாயம்) joins tēvaṉ, "God", from Sanskrit deva, with cakāyam, which the Tamil Lexicon takes from Sanskrit sahāya and defines as help, aid and support. The name means "God's help" and is the Tamil rendering of Lazarus, from Hebrew Eleazar, "God has helped". It was taken by Saint Devasahayam Pillai, an eighteenth-century official of Travancore from present-day Kanyakumari who became a Catholic and was martyred; in 2022 Pope Francis canonized him as the first Indian layman to be declared a saint. It is a traditional name among Tamil Catholics.
