Simeon meaning
Simeon is a Christian boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Hearing (from shama', 'to hear')
Also used to mean: he has heard, God has heard
Simeon is the fuller biblical form of Simon, from Hebrew Shimon. Strong's Concordance derives it from shama', 'to hear', and glosses it 'hearing'; in Genesis, Leah named her second son Simeon, saying that the Lord had heard she was unloved. Simeon became the ancestor of one of the twelve tribes of Israel. In Luke's Gospel an old and devout man named Simeon took the infant Jesus in his arms in the Temple and prayed the Nunc Dimittis, 'Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace'. In India Simeon is used in Christian families, especially those who keep Old Testament names.
