Nehemiah meaning
Nehemiah is a Christian boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Consolation of Jah (God)
Also used to mean: comforted by God, the Lord comforts
Nehemiah comes from Hebrew Nechemyah, built from nacham, 'to comfort', and Yah, a short form of the name of God. Strong's Concordance renders it 'consolation of Jah', which name lists phrase as 'comforted by God' or 'the Lord comforts'. The best-known bearer gives his name to the Book of Nehemiah: a Jewish official at the Persian court who returned to Jerusalem as governor and organised the rebuilding of its ruined walls. Strong's notes that three men in the Bible carry the name. In India it is one of the Old Testament names used by Christian families.
