Noah meaning
Noah is a Christian and international boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Rest; the same word as nuwach, rest
Also used to mean: comfort
Noah is the English form of Hebrew Noach (נֹחַ), the patriarch of the Flood. Strong's Concordance treats the name as the same word as nuwach, "rest" or "quiet". Genesis 5:29 gives its own explanation: his father Lamech named him saying that this child would comfort them in the toil of their hands, which is why name lists offer both "rest" and "comfort". Britannica summarises the story in which Noah, a righteous man, is warned of the coming flood, builds the ark and takes the animals aboard, and notes its parallels with older Mesopotamian flood stories. In Islam he is the prophet Nūḥ, after whom the seventy-first surah of the Quran is named.
