Mateo meaning
Mateo is an international and Christian boy's name of Hebrew origin (Spanish form).
Spanish form of Matthew; Hebrew Mattithyah, "gift of Jah"
Mateo is the Spanish form of Matthew, the tax collector who became one of the twelve apostles and is traditionally the author of the first Gospel. The Greek Matthaios is usually traced to Hebrew Mattithyah, which Strong's glosses 'gift of Jah', from mattath, 'gift', and Yah, a short form of God's name; Thayer's lexicon notes that reading and also an Aramaic alternative meaning 'manly'. Baby-name lists give 'gift of God', which matches the usual view. The Italian form is Matteo. Mateo is said ma-TAY-oh and fits easily with Indian surnames.
