Veerendra meaning
Veerendra (वीरेन्द्र) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, वी, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Rohini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Chief of heroes
Veerendra (वीरेन्द्र) is Sanskrit vīrendra, from vīra, "hero", and indra, the king of the gods, whose name at the end of a compound means "chief" or "best of". The two vowels merge, a and i becoming e, to give vīrendra, "chief of heroes". Monier-Williams cites the word from the Kathāsaritsāgara, Somadeva's great collection of tales. Indian name lists give Veerendra as chief of heroes or king of the brave, which matches the dictionary. The name is also spelled Virendra or Virender and is used across India. A well-known bearer is Veerendra Heggade, the hereditary head of the Dharmasthala temple in Karnataka.
