Patience, fortitude, composure
Also used to mean: courage
Dheeraj (धीरज) is a Hindi word. Platts's Hindustani dictionary derives dhīraj from Sanskrit dhairya and records everyday phrases such as dhīraj dharnā, "to have patience"; Monier-Williams gives dhairya as firmness, constancy, calmness, patience, fortitude and courage. Indian name lists give "patience", sometimes with "courage", which matches the word exactly. Behind both lies dhīra, "steady, brave", the root of the names Dheer and Dhairya. Dheeraj is a boy's name used across North India and is also used in the south.
