Lakshman meaning
Lakshman (लक्ष्मण) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Endowed with auspicious marks, fortunate; Rama's younger brother
Also used to mean: lucky, having auspicious marks
Lakshman (लक्ष्मण) comes from Sanskrit lakṣmaṇa, formed from lakṣman, "a mark or sign". Monier-Williams gives the adjective as "having marks" and, in particular, endowed with auspicious marks, lucky or fortunate, which is the meaning name lists repeat today. The name belongs above all to Lakshmana of the Ramayana, the son of King Dasharatha and Sumitra, who followed his brother Rama into fourteen years of exile and is remembered as the model of a devoted brother. Laxman is an alternative spelling, and Tulsidas's Hindi retelling of the story calls him Lakhan.
