Vikramaditya meaning
Vikramaditya (विक्रमादित्य) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
'valour-sun': a celebrated king of Ujjayini, of the Vikrama era
Also used to mean: sun of valour, brave as the sun
Vikramaditya (विक्रमादित्य) joins Sanskrit vikrama, "valour, prowess", and āditya, "the sun", and Monier-Williams glosses it as "valour-sun". It is the name of the celebrated king of Ujjayinī who is said to have driven out the Śakas and founded the Vikrama Samvat calendar, which begins in 58 B.C. and is still used in North and West India. Legend places nine famous scholars at his court, the nava-ratna, and many tales, such as the Vetāla stories, are told of him. Monier-Williams notes that other kings took the title too, among them the Gupta emperor Chandragupta II. Name lists give it as "sun of valour", matching the dictionary.
