Udayan meaning

Udayan (उदयन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.

Rising (of the sun); outcome; name of several kings and authors

Also used to mean: sunrise

Udayan (उदयन) is the Sanskrit udayana, from the verb ud-i, "to go up, to rise". Monier-Williams gives it as the rising of the sun, and also as a way out, an outcome or a conclusion, and records it as the name of several kings and authors. The most famous is Udayana, king of Vatsa, who ruled from Kauśāmbī in the Buddha's time and is the romantic hero of Bhāsa's Svapnavāsavadatta and Harṣa's Ratnāvalī. Another Udayana was a great philosopher of the Nyāya school. Name lists give Udayan as "rising", the dictionary sense; it is a longer form of the name Uday.
