Nagesh meaning
Nagesh (नागेश) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ना, it is a Vrishchik rashi name (Anuradha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A name of Patanjali; a Shiva linga in the Daruka forest
Also used to mean: lord of serpents
Nagesh (नागेश) is a compound of Sanskrit nāga, "serpent", and īśa, "lord", so name lists give it as "lord of serpents", which simply follows its two parts. Monier-Williams gives no plain-word gloss. Instead it records Nāgeśa as a name of the sage Patañjali, as a name of the later grammarian Nāgojībhaṭṭa, and as a Śiva liṅga in the Dārukā forest named in the Śiva Purāṇa. That shrine is counted among the twelve jyotirliṅgas as Nageshwar; its Purāṇic story tells of Shiva defeating the demon Dāruka to free his imprisoned devotees, and the best-known temple stands near Dwarka in Gujarat, though other sites also claim it.
