Mahesh meaning
Mahesh (महेश) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Great lord; a name of Shiva
Mahesh (महेश) is the Sanskrit maheśa, from mahā, "great", and īśa, "lord". Monier-Williams gives it as "great lord" or "god", a name of Śiva, and also records it as the name of a Buddhist deity and of various authors and other men. The second part, īśa, means an owner, master or lord, and the same dictionary notes that it too can stand alone for Śiva. Indian name lists give Mahesh as "great lord" or "Lord Shiva", which matches the dictionary exactly. It is one of a family of names built on īśa, alongside Girish, Umesh, Suresh and Ramesh, each naming a god by what he is lord of.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Shiva.
