Vitthal meaning
Vitthal (विट्ठल) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
A god worshipped at Pandharpur, Vithoba, a form of Vishnu or Krishna
Also used to mean: Lord Vithoba, one who stands on a brick
Vitthal (विट्ठल) is the name of the god worshipped at Pandharpur in Maharashtra. Monier-Williams records viṭṭhala as this deity, commonly called Vithoba and regarded as a form of Vishnu or Krishna, and describes his images standing on a brick with hands on hips; in the legend he came to the devotee Puṇḍarīka, or Pundalik. A popular explanation reads the name as "one who stands on a brick", from Marathi vīṭ, "brick", but this is a traditional reading rather than a dictionary one. Vitthal is at the heart of the Varkari tradition of Dnyaneshwar, Namdev and Tukaram. Monier-Williams also names Viṭṭhala, son of Vallabhācārya.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Krishna.
