Maheep meaning
Maheep (महीप) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
A king, literally 'protector of the earth'
Also used to mean: great
Maheep (महीप) is Sanskrit mahīpa, from mahī, "the earth", and -pa, "one who protects or rules". Monier-Williams gives it simply as a king, literally an "earth-protector", a word used in the Mahabharata, and also as the name of a lexicographer. It is a shorter sister word of Mahipal, with the same meaning. Name lists most often give "king", which matches the dictionary; a few give "great" or "mighty", which is looser. The name is heard mostly in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
