Debashish meaning
Debashish (देबाशीष) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage). By its first sound, दे, it is a Meen rashi name (Revati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Blessing of the gods (deva, god + āśis, blessing)
Debashish (দেবাশিস or দেবাশীষ in Bengali) is the Bengali form of Sanskrit devāśis, made from deva, "god" or "divine", and āśis, which Monier-Williams defines as a wish, a prayer and, above all, a blessing or benediction. Taken together the name means a blessing from the gods. Bengali turns the Sanskrit v into b, so Devashish becomes Debashish, and the name is spelled many ways in English, from Debasish to Debashis. It is a Bengali boys' name. A well-known bearer is the slide-guitar player Debashish Bhattacharya.
