Anjan meaning
Anjan (अञ्जन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Kohl, collyrium; ointment; name of a mythical elephant
Anjan (अञ्जन) is Sanskrit añjana, from the verb añj, "to anoint". Monier-Williams gives the act of applying an ointment, and especially the black pigment or kohl put on the eyelashes and eyelids; the lexicons add ink, night and fire. As a masculine noun it is the name of the elephant guarding the western quarter, of a mountain and of a king of Mithilā, and the feminine Añjanā is the mother of Hanumān. The name is used in Bengal and North India; the singer and film-maker Anjan Dutt is a well-known bearer.
