We haven't confirmed a dictionary meaning for the name itself.
Avnoor (ਅਵਨੂਰ) is a modern Punjabi name, given mostly to girls in Sikh families. Its ending is nūr, the Arabic word for light that the Mahan Kosh also records as a name of the Creator, and which occurs in the Guru Granth Sahib in Kabir's line about the one light from which all creation came (Ang 1349). The first part is less clear. Name lists explain the whole name in several ways, such as "divine light", "protected light" and "radiant". The Mahan Kosh does list a Sanskrit root av, to protect or to please, but no source records how the name was formed, so we give no dictionary meaning. It belongs with names such as Gurnoor, Jasnoor and Harnoor.
