Baker meaning
Baker is an international boy's name of English origin (occupational surname).
A baker of bread; Old English bæcere
Also used to mean: one who bakes bread
Baker began as an English surname for a family whose trade was baking. The Online Etymology Dictionary traces the word to Old English bæcere, "one who bakes, especially bread", from the verb bacan, "to bake", with relatives such as Dutch bakker and German Bäcker. In medieval England the trade was split in two, with separate bakers of brown bread and of white bread. Like Archer and Carter, it is one of the old work names now used as first names, and it has a warm, homely feel. It is said BAY-ker and sits easily before an Indian surname.
